Sc3 is a week-long environmental leadership training program held at the state-of-the-art National Conservation Training Center of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), in Shepherdstown, WV, just outside Washington, D.C. The Green Schools Alliance (GSA) is still seeking applications from students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their schools or communities to participate in this unparalleled experience.
As usual, the Troop has booked the first two weeks in July for our annual stay in Camp Read, with its 1200 acres of lakes, mountains and fun, like rifle shooting, horseback riding, caving, sailing, canoeing, fishing, swimming, white water rafting, zip lining--the list goes on and on. Patrols from Algonquin troops are invited to cook up their best camp meal recipes (including a Dutch oven Dessert) at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation on May 4, 2013. Cook-off Rules are available at http://www.wpcbsa.org/District/Algonquin/#SpringEvent Prizes will be awarded.
Yeah, have you ever seen a patch before? You know, the kind you can wear on your uniform? Although it’s been around in Scouting since 1920, and made its first appearance at the national jamboree in 1937, it’s not unique to Scouting. In fact, there are a lot of different subcultures that trade patches, including police and other emergency professionals—even punk rock enthusiasts.
This campout is geared towards our new scouts and scouts working towards 1st Class, but all Scouts and adults who like to camp are invited and encouraged to attend! If you are a parent of a new member of the Troop, please try to attend and have your scout attend and bring his Scout book as we’ll be working on Tenderfoot and 2d Class Scout requirements during the campout. Pickup and Closing ceremony will begin at 9 AM on Sunday morning.
